3 Core Elements Provided Through Our Academy:

Basketball Skills Training

Players will receive skills training and development through basketball workouts designed by the BIG 3 coaching staff. Essential basketball fundamentals will be taught, including: shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding, defense, and footwork. Athletes will receive videos and written formats of the tailored workouts via our website.


Players will be required to complete the basketball workouts and stream themselves performing them via a Zoom conference call. Workout check-ins for the basketball training program will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-6pm. Players who have conflicts at that time can go through the workouts on their own at a different time. Each workout will have a shooting portion where players will be required to chart their shot attempts and makes, and then submit them via a google form so we can help athletes track their progress.

Physical fitness and athletics go hand-in-hand, especially when it comes to a sport like basketball. Basketball is unique in that it requires explosion, endurance, and strength. Players continuously display their agility by moving laterally to play defense or perform a euro-step, jumping for rebounds or layups, sprinting to get back in transition or get ahead on the break. To be the best basketball player you can be, you must be in peak shape.


Our physical training program will help you get to that point. It is a program consisting of exercises geared towards strengthening the lower body, upper body, and core. Players will be challenged with agility, mobility, and endurance exercises. All of the movements performed in this program are necessary to be the most athletic you can be. Get faster, increase your vert, and start bullying opponents been the lines!

Physical Training

Mental training, based within sport psychology, involves the teaching and development of psychological skills that facilitate optimal involvement, performance, and enjoyment in sports at all levels of competition. Mental training and sport psychology are increasingly recognized as an integral part in the development of all athletes. There is a reason why the vast majority of NBA, MLB, and NCAA institutions have hired or contracted sport psychology professionals for work with teams in the past 5 years. It is an exciting time to gain exposure to mental training and sport psychology to take your game to the next level!


Practice in the field of applied sport involves a combination of individual and group consulting, depending on the needs of the client and organization. There are many specific concepts within applied sport psychology (e.g., goal setting, concentration, motivation, relaxation, imagery). Our goal is to teach the mental skills necessary for athletes to use in order to perform at a consistently high level in training and competition, increase adherence to training programs, and to help athletes reach their full potential.

Jeff Ruser will be leading the Mental Training Portion of our program. He is a Sport and Performance Psychology Consultant based in Illinois and Indiana. He graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, holds a Master's degree in Sport Psychology from Fresno State, and is pursuing his PhD in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Sport and Performance Psychology from Indiana University.  


Jeff has years of valuable experience working with youth, high school, as well as Division I, II, and III collegiate student-athletes. Most recently, Jeff spent 15 months working with Indiana University Athletics consulting teams, student-athletes, and coaches performing at the highest levels in their respective sports. Jeff helps his clients develop the mental skills needed for performance at the highest level, manage stress associated with elite performance, as we well as helps them leverage their strengths to develop in and out of sport. Mental Training

Grow and train to be a complete basketball player while at home through our Virtual Basketball Academy! BIG 3 Basketball plans to provide players with 4 weekly training sessions. Players will train their basketball skills twice a week, while training their body and mind the other two days.
